Birth parents who choose adoption for their babies love them very, very much. It is not an easy decision and you will feel grief and loss. Reassurance can come from knowing that you made the decision based on what you believe is best for your child.

An open adoption gives you an opportunity to chose your childs parents. You will relinquish legal parenting and child rearing rights to the adoptive parents. Your child will know that you chose to make an adoption plan because you love and care deeply about him or her. Some birthparents choose not to have contact any contact.

While the birth mother cannot consent until after the child is born, in Connecticut the waiting period is 48 hours after birth. This gives you, as the birthparent, the opportunity to feel the decision you make is the right one.

About birthfathers. The birthfather is an important and valued person in the life of a child and in the planning around the best interests of the child. Sometimes though, it not always possible for the birthfather to be involved. Perhaps you are no longer seeing the birthfather or may not be on good terms with him or may not even know who he is. He may not even be aware of your pregnancy. We will help you get through the legal and emotional maze of notifying a potential birthfather.

There aren’t any fees for the birth parents.
